Comprehensive Ship Decarbonization solutions for sustainable maritime operations

At ShipDecarb, we deliver a wide range of proven ship decarbonization solutions that help shipowners, operators, and shipyards achieve carbon reduction goals, improve regulatory compliance, and lower operating costs.

Because every vessel and trading pattern is different, we tailor our approach for each project. There’s no one-size-fits-all solution in maritime decarbonization, which is why we have created a "ship-decarbonization menu card" as you can see in the over view below.

All ship decarbonization solutions are contributing in their own way each for different type of vessel / sailing area.
Unfortunately there is no "one size fits all"..

Clean Fuel Technologies: LNG, Methanol, Ammonia & Alternative Fuels

We partner with Eltronic Fueltech to design and manufacture dual-fuel systems that enable vessels to operate on greener marine fuels such as Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), Methanol, Ammonia, LPG, and Ethane. These systems support both two-stroke and four-stroke engines from major manufacturers (like Everllence, WinGD, Yanmar & Daihatsu, etc), helping cut greenhouse gas emissions while maintaining operational performance.

Benefits:

  1. Supports transition to low-carbon fuels

  2. Improves compliance with IMO and EU decarbonization regulations

  3. Designed for safety, reliability, and efficiency

Hydrogen solution with Fuel Cell technology for zero-emission shipping

Hydrogen fuel cell systems provide a pathway to zero-emission propulsion. Designed and integrated by E-Cap Marine, these systems enable vessels to operate partially or fully on hydrogen power, producing only water as a by-product and eliminating CO₂ emissions from onboard power generation.

Design, delivery and integration of full system from "tank to main switch board", covering full EPC scope.

Energy Efficiency Upgrades & Power Management

We deliver energy-saving upgrades designed to reduce fuel consumption and improve efficiency:

  1. VFD upgrades for pumps to optimize energy use

  2. Ship-side shorepower systems to reduce generator load while in port

  3. Split-type shaft generators with widespread class approvals and references

These solutions directly lower operating costs and improve your carbon intensity ratings like CII and EEXI.

Wind-Assisted Propulsion (WAPS) & Rotor Sails for your seagoing vessels

Making optimal use of wind energy through Anemoi Rotor Sails can reduce fuel consumption by up to 5%–30%, especially on ocean-going routes.

These systems are available with tilt, rail, and fixed configurations, making them suitable for almost all commercial vessel types like Bulk Carriers, Tankers, Gas Carriers, RoRos and Ferries.

Why it matters:
Wind-assisted propulsion reduces emissions and fuel costs without major engine modifications, and therefore its a practical way to incrementally decarbonize existing fleets.

Onboard Carbon Capture Solutions (OCCS)
COâ‚‚ Capture Solutions

Onboard carbon capture technologies (OCCS) use chemical adsorption such as amines or calcium hydroxide to capture COâ‚‚ from the exhaust gases. This technology makes sense because:

  1. Not all vessels / trade routes have the possibility to use clean fuels

  2. The exhaust gases contain roughly 5% of COâ‚‚, which makes it a lot easier to capture here as compared to capturing from the athmosphere

Emerging solutions based on molten carbonate fuel cells are also in development by Ecospray in close cooperation with the University of Genoa.

Battery Integration & Electric / Hybrid Propulsion Systems

We offer customized, fully marine-certified battery PowerPacs and integration services through E-Cap Marine and Lehman Marine, enabling you to:

  1. Operate vessels in hybrid electric mode and zero-emission usage

  2. Reduce fuel consumption and emissions during peak and auxiliary loads

  3. Benefit from scalable (containerized) battery configurations

In combination with integrations from Royal van der Leun we can support near-zero emission operation when applicable.

Marine Solar PV systems for decarbonization of your onboard genset power

Marine certified photovoltaic systems deliver 100% clean energy directly onboard, reducing generator fuel use and emissions.

With ABS-approved 3-phase microinverter technology and robust marine structural support, these solar solutions provide a great way to decarbonize your genset power.

Benefits:

  1. Visible reductions in fuel consumption and COâ‚‚ output

  2. Rapid payback with optimized deployment

  3. Strong compliance support under emerging decarbonization policies like FuelEU and EU ETS / UK ETS.

Exhaust Gas Treatment & Emissions Control

Through Ecospray and other partners, we provide advanced emission control systems including:

  1. Methane slip catalysts with up to 95% methane slip reduction

  2. SCR-DeNOx for NOx reduction

  3. DOC/DPF systems for particulate matter (PM) reduction

  4. Carbon Capture-ready Exhaust Gas Cleaning Systems for SOx reduction (EGCS)

These systems reduce your carbon footprint and support compliance with tightening emissions standards in global shipping.

Ship-Specific Decarbonization Calculations & ROI Analysis

Understanding the financial and environmental benefit of decarbonization is key. We provide tailored calculations that estimate:

  1. Return on investment (ROI)

  2. Fuel and carbon savings

  3. Compliance impact under EU ETS, CII, MRV, and FuelEU Maritime

This data-driven approach helps you make informed decisions on decarbonization strategies.

We do this in close cooperation with our partner Sustainable Ships, who are expert in calculations ánd the regulatory aspect of global ship decarbonization regulations.
